Good afternoon, how do you think it is the best health checkup agreement for an ARR farm? I have a farm of 10 real servers to which I want to apply live traffic test. I understand that the only way out of the unhealth state is through a URL test check. I assume that I have 10 servers. What do you think of this configuration:
Failiured Code: 500-600 
Maximum Failiured: 20 
FailOrver Period: 10 
Minimum Servers: 5 
Check by URL every 14400 seconds, or 4 hours.
I assume if wrong I did not understand that before repeated errors 500 even if the 10 fail I will always have 5 assets and at 4 hours in case the 500 code has been temporary or false positive the fallen will return to service. I'm fine?

With a new setup, I have 2 ARR + NLB Servers, Then 2 servers storing the websites in a server farm. 

When trying to connect directly to the website via NLB VIP, I get the error "502 3 12175 15"  If I bypass the ARR servers and go directly the webserver with the content, then the website loads fine. The traffic route is a follows: 

WAN -> NLB VIP (On IIS Default Website) Dedicated to routing traffic only! -> Server Farm (Default URL Rewrite) -> 2x Web Servers with multiple applications. Everything has to be on SSL and each application\domain have there own IP Addresses. (SNI Not Required) 

I am able to ping and telnet perfectly fine from the ARR + NLB Servers to the Server Farm servers. 

Can anyone help troubleshoot this error? 

I just upgraded my 2008 server to 2016 and am not able to access any website from any browser. I get a 401 error saying I don't have valid credentials to the directory. This is true on all websites. However one of the sites home page is displayed (probably because it is cached.) I followed one suggestion that the web.config file has something to do with it, but the config files for all websites don't have anything related to any permissions and these files are on the other servers (2008 and 2012) as well and cause no problems. I checked the permissions for the iis_iusrs and the sites all have read and execute, read and list folder contents; all the same as on the older servers. I found something online that mentioned the application pool as having a setting for enabling anonymous authentication, but haven't discovered how to find it. I don't understand why I never had any such problem in over a decade of running windows servers and would appreciate being pointed in the right direction, as I would not like to have to reinstall an older version of windows server.

I'm a noob tasked with enabling a server running IIS 6 to accept SOAP requests.

The client will use the SOAP Request will put an XML file on the server and, ultimately, another file will be created on the server that will be sent back to the client before the SOAP interaction is terminated.

How do I make this happen?  I have the SOAP request already.  I need to know how to configure the server with IIS 6 to accept that SOAP request.

For people who are experiencing 500 errors with crashes in Wincache, I would like your help in investigating something.

It turns out that the IIS FastCGI handler will terminate requests that take too long.  The default for this is 90 seconds. (see: http://www.iis.net/configreference/system.webserver/fastcgi/application#005 , the requestTimeout setting).  Additionally, there's a timer tracking FastCGI request activity (activityTimeout, default 30 seconds, see the same page).

If the php-cgi instance is killed while a script is executing, it's highly probable that Wincache's cross-process memory will get corrupted.

If Wincache's cross-process memory gets corrupted, all PHP instances in the appPool must be terminated *simultaneously* to recover. 

So, here's the ask:

For folks who are seeing event log entries where php-cgi.exe / Wincache crashed, could you check your HTTP W3C log files (%systemDrive%\inetpub\logs\LogFiles\<site>\u_ex*.log) and see if there was a 500 status message on a PHP request *before* the crash?

I'm particularly interested in the win32 status codes that on the 500 messages that happened before the 500 associated with the crash.

I'm looking into improving the diagnosability of when the FastCGI handler terminates an instance, so we can help customers see if the Wincache crashes are due to avoidable timeouts.  Additionally, I'm looking into ways that Wincache can more gracefully recover from these kinds of corruptions.

We have an ARR 3 box in front of a Skype for Business server. The SFB server had a web service which is expecting, and requires anonymous authentication. If we point our client directly at SFB it works as expected. However pointing the client to ARR to proxy the request returns a 401.

Looking at the IIS trace log, the request comes into ARR with these headers:

To me, a simple sysadmin, it looks like ARR is adding in some Authentication headers in the HTTP request being sent to the SFB server, essentially forcing the connection between ARR and the SFB server to use NTLM. This isn't supported and it needs to be anonymous.

Can anyone shed any light at all on what's going on here? ARR itself only had Anonymous authentication installed / enabled on the default site, and I can't seem to see any option where I can tell ARR to NOT add these headers.

I have an Azure cloud service, which runs as a website engine and loads a slightly different site depending on which domain name you use.

I'm working through using centralized certificates and assigning an SSL binding dynamically at the application start. I apply the changes, everything looks correct, but the 443 bindings do not respond. IIS doesn't seem to realise that it has bindings there.

However, when I remote onto the server and I edit an existing binding, add a character onto the host name and then delete it again (basically just to make the OK button appear), press OK and it works! Nothing changed in the bindings.

So what is that additional step that occurs when a user press OK after creating a new binding?

I've tried looking at the EnabledProtocols, but that doesn't help and I can't see anything else that might be causing the problem.

Hi,

I have configured Reverse proxy Inbound Rule through Url Rewrite and it working fine. At the same time when I set Reverse Proxy Outbound Rule got "500 - Internal server error." message on same site. If I disable Outbound rule and keep the inbound rule active then its working fine. Once I active outbound rule got "500 - Internal server error." message.

Can anybody help me to resolve the issue.

I configured 2 sites under one server with 1 IP address. Using 2 DNS names I bind those to both sites. One site configured as a Soap web service and other site is an web application. I am calling the web service from the application and I kept getting 401 error. Is there a way to get around this problem? As I recalled I read somewhere before the issue caused by some kind of loop back from the IIS server so you could hack the windows registry to get around this problem but I won't be able to do that due to company's security policy. I hope I can get some help from the experts on this forum.

i set up a local webserver with iis, my local ip 192.168.120.201 and then i forward it to my public ip (113.212.117.16:800) with mikrotik, its okay and working but when i try to log in to my app/site from outside of my local network using my public ip (the login page load succesfully) it turns out requesting from local ip (192.168.120.201) so i can't log in, but when i delete the local ip from address bar of my browser and change it to public ip + port its okay...

how to fix this?

Hello, I'm trying to use Advanced Logging on an IIS 7 web site which forwards client requests to a Java Web application hosted on a Tomcat container. The connection between IIS and Tomcat is managed via the Jakarta ISAPI Redirector.

I've tried almost everything but the "cs-uri-stem" doesn't log the jsp page requested by the client. Instead, for each request the log shows "/jakarta/isapi_redirect.dll", i.e. the ISAPI filter called to forward the request to Tomcat.

 Is anybody able to help me on this?

Below is our configuration one of our servers.

OS Version: Windows Server 2012 R2

RAM-24 GB

Processor- Quad Core - Intel Xenon E570 @2.60Ghz

WCF services hosted in single app-pool - 25 [All under default web site]

App-pool Pipeline mode - Classic

Queue Length - 4000

This is the basic configuration in all of our servers. The issue happens once in a week where all of the service in all the app-pool starts throwing 503- Server too busy error. Event browsing the service from different host also shows this error in browser. When we checked the tracing we saw the warning is coming from ISAPI module. Below is the error

MODULE_SET_RESPONSE_ERROR_STATUS

Once this error starts coming recycling of app-pool/ restarting the IIS won't work. Only a complete reboot would fix the issue. I want to understand why this error is coming out.

I am trying to add some authenticated users (with the name from $description) to my FTP server using Powershell, but I can't figure out how to do it. This is the code I am trying to use:

When I run the code nothing happens on the IIS server, the user is not in the authorization rules. I do not get any errors.

The server i am running this on is my domain contoler because I am creating other files and things. I am able to acces the FTP server from my domain controller because I can create a folder on the FTP server.

Bouth server are running windows server 2016, but are not connected to the internett.
