I have recently created an IIS 7.5 FTP site (Win Server 2008 Datacenter). The data is mounted through a virtual directory from an EMC Isilon NAS SMB share. Isilon does not guarantee the returned order of file and folder listings when folder locations are queried. The result is that the FTP site is returning files and folders in a somewhat random order. This is most often visible when viewing the FTP site through a web browser. I know that FTP clients and most browsers can sort the result order by clicking on the headings. Management wants the results sorted alphabetically by default.
I have contacted Isilon, and there is reportedly no way to force the return order from Isilon. Does anyone know of a way to force the result sort order in IIS 7.5?
This issue only occurs with FTP, not with HTTP.
Below is an example of an FTP link to our site in which the contents are not sorted.
