FTP: must supply hostname to logon?

Hello,

I have a w2k8 r2 SP1 non-domain joined server running IIS 7.5 with only one FTP site configured and no web sites.

I am using a number of different FTP clients to access the site. To logon I MUST supply the hostname\username instead of just the username. Once logged on the site behaves as expected / configred.

I want to configure the site to only require a username. How do I do this please?

I have read http://www.trainsignal.com/blog/windows-server-2008-ftp-user-authentication

I have tried adding the host name to the Basic Auth setting, both on its own and FQDN (which is made up), neither works. I have tried binding to the host name under the binding settings - this also does not work.

What have I done wrong or is this a limitation of Microsofts implementation of FTP on a stand alone server?

regards,

Rich
