ApplicationPools in Windows Server 2008R2

Have worked for Windows server 2003R2 and IIS6 for a while.  Just moved to Windows 2008R2 and found IIS Manager
changed.  I learned that Windows 2008R2 can run .NetFrameowrk 2.0, 3.5, and 4.0 automatically.  However, after
upgraded to Visual Studio 2010, some of my ASP.NET programs worked fine, some did not.

What is the Application Pools?  In our Application Pools of the IIS Server Manager in Windows Server 1008R2, I can see,
ASP.NET v4.0 (Integrated),
ASP.NET v4.0 Classic (Classic),
Classic .NET AppPool (Classic), v2.0
DefaultAppPool (Integrated) v2.0
TractItWeb (Integrated) v4.0

What does Integrated or Claasic mean?   Why the DefaultAppPoool is set to v2.0?  It seems to me
the TractItWeb Application Pool is set up to go with the TractIt web program.  Why?

Thanks,
Jeffrey
