IIS 7.5 Manager Known Bug/Issue?

I am unable to test pass through authentication via IIS Manager, however, the service app seems to work fine. I am trying to determine if this behavior is related to IIS version 7.5.7600.16385. I only see this error in the only environment which has this IIS Version.  All of my other farms are running IIS version 7.0.6000.16386 and those farms are not seeing this behavior.

IIS7 > Servername > SharePoint Web Services > ServiceApplicationID> Basic Settings

  • Alias=<ServiceAppID>
  • Application Pool=<ActiveDirectoryDomain\DomainAcct>
  • Physical path = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\WebServices\Metadata (wss_wpg has read & exec, list and read; wss_admin_wpg has full control and the service account is a member of both groups)
  • Connect As = Application User (pass-through authentication)

Results in the following error:

  • 'There was an error while performing this operation.'
  • 'Details:'
  • 'Invalid application path'

However, if I connect as the service id assigned to that application pool, the test is successful.

This is ONLY happening in one of my 30+ farms - including test farms...

All other farms succeed in authentication and authorization when using the same settings (although the service account is different and in different domains)

This failed pass-through authentication TEST happens on ALL web services on the app servers

I am starting to think this error is resulting from a bug in the latest IIS version...

Is there a list of known bugs/issues with version 7.5.7600.16385? Maybe IIS Manager pass-through testing no longer works as it did before?

Anyone from Microsoft available to comment?
