Total newbie: Publish to existing Linux site

I have had a PHP/MySQL web for my football team going for years, hosted by UKHost4U and have been publishing using FrontPage. For some weird reason, even though FP server extensions are installed it suddenly refuses to publish properly. Anyway, I thought I would fianlly move into the 21st century by trying to use WebMatrix to publish it, since I just use PHP and none of the FP widgets I can use anything.

WebMatrix won't let me use Web Deploy - I assume something is required to be provided by UKHost4U?? So I tried FTP and wasn't sure of the settings. I have a couple of subdomains for hosting different sites, one is in a /sk folder. I have the settings as follows, substitutited my actual name by 'mysite' below:
Protocol: FTP
Server: www.mysite.com
Site path: www.mysite.com/sk
user & pw correct
Destination URL: http://www.mysite.com/sk

When I validate the connection it tells me it connects properly. On the remote settings page at the top it gives a local address. When I change that to the remote address it adds a ':80' to the end. When I press the "Check Compatibility" it says 'Simple HTML Page' is not available, neither is 'PHP'. It says neither of these can be served by my site. But it's already been running a PHP web for many years - what's it exactly testing?

If I go into the remote view it shows nothing - no error messages, no files, no expalanation, just nothing, which is pretty useless.

Can someone can let me know what I'm doing wrong? Is is WebMatrix just not suitable for the very simple thing I'm trying to do?

Thanks.
