Hello all,
I’m a little confused regarding the use of example.com as a host name in IIS 7..
I am currently working my way through an Apress Book: ASP.Net E-commerce, from novice to professional, and at the start I followed all the necessary steps to set up my project on IIS7, using the Host Name www.example.com. I was able to enter this url and browse to my project that was hosted on my local server with no problem at all.
A number of chapters into the book / project, for whatever reason decided to reformat my machine to free up some space etc after completing 3 years of head blag in University. Remembering the troubles of setting up IIS7 previously I decided to take a print screen of the selections (checkboxes) I had made in Windows Features, so I would know my setup when it came to installing IIS7 and associated features after my fresh OS install, and hopefully get my project back working exactly as before.
I managed to get my project up and running on IIS7 and have continued to progress through the chapters in the Apress book. However, I have not been able to set my projects host name as www.example.com as I had previously... For some reason, when I use the specified example.com host name and browse to this url, I do not see my website anymore but iana.org Example Domain page!
http://www.iana.org/domains/example/
Does anyone know why this could be? Have I done something wrong / different this time round, or is this a new thing from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority? It does say that this can be used for illustrative examples, but how?
Your help will be gratefully received.
Thank you in advance....
