In the IIS event log, I have the recurring entry for a file with the extension .smi:
2012-12-11 16:30:54 192.168.0.230 GET /FileName.smi - 80 - IP.IP.IP.IP Windows-Media-Player/11.0.5721.5280 404 0 2 1405 313 93
- This happens from only one of our customers (two source IPs)
- From googling..it is Windows Media Player looking for a closed caption file matching the same FileName, where there is an MP3 (and there is an MP3 with the same file name - as expected - the customer is streaming an MP3 file from IIS 7.5).
- Since it is only from a single customer, I'm guessing the client has a custom configured Windows Media Player looking for closed caption files.
- The IIS log shows it coming from several different versions of WMP 10.00.00.4074 and 11.0.5721.5280
How can I get these entries to not populate the IIS log files? Is there another way to configure IIS to prevent these entries from populating the IIS logs?
