FTP issues and Server not found-IIS driving me nuts!

I'm at my wits end with IIS. I have recently been wrangling with it over auto updating with ftp WordPress and also problems simply adding new sites.

First I have a WordPress install in Default Website and have always updated this manually but when prompted to install to the latest version a few days ago I decided to install FTP server & try that but it doesn't work for me! I actually have several WP installs on the default site and trying WP auto update on one I couldn't initially connect-on the WordPress ftp connection page "error connecting to the server. Please verify the settings are correct".After a little while with the settings I got another error"Unable to locate WordPress content directory (wp-content)".

On another default WordPress install I got this error when trying FTP auto update" Destination directory for file streaming does not exist or is not writable. Installation failed".

I tried checking permissions and noticed Creator/Owner group has no assigned permission-but when I try & give this full control it doesn't work!

I have also tried browsing to other of my IIS sites and get "server not found". I cannot even make a new site and browse to that as I just get "Server not found". I have spent ages on this and am very frustrated by IIS not working properly for me. I have googled for help and tried following all instruction but new sites are not working and I do not know why. Should I delete everything & reinstall? I do not know....

Thankfully I have a working WordPress install using WebMatrix2 (IIS Express) but I want to get IIS7.5 working properly (I use Win7 Home Premium). I am grateful for help and advice-thanks.
