Case statement containing a greater than evaluation

 Hi, I am attempting to split the Message column of a Windows event log into two, for import into a database (max literal of 2000). This would require a greater than string length evaluation. The following is not acceptable to Log Parser:

CASE (STRLEN(Message)>2000)
        WHEN True Then SUBSTR(Message, 0, 2000)
        ELSE Message
    END AS Message1,

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi,

I seem to be unable to delete a record from the Client Certificate Authentication One To One Mappings collection editor.  See screenshot below.

I do not have any similar settings on the top-level server node.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Website #2is not logging errors and in the Windows event logs are a lot of Event_ID 2284 errors :failed to write buffered events to log file ... The problem happened at least X times ...

Any ideas please.

FTP 7.5, Cannot access file while in use

Hi!
We're using FTP 7.5 (with IIS 7.0 on Windows 2008 Web edition, 64-bit) and we have problems downloading files that is currently in use. This problem occurs both on files that is still uploading and files that are being used by other processes. In particular we have problems to download IIS log files since these are locked by Worker Processes serving a web site.

The error message returned to the FTP client is 550 The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

This is exactly the same error that is described in the FAQ (http://forums.iis.net/t/1158270.aspx#B43) but even though we've changed this setting, the problem persists.
I've verified that the File Handling / Allow Reading Files While Uploading is set toTrue. The applicationHost.config for the FTP site looks like this:

<site name="ftp" id="5">
  <application path="/">
    <virtualDirectory path="/" physicalPath="C:\ftpspace" />
    <virtualDirectory path="/LocalUser" physicalPath="C:\webspace" />
  </application>
  <bindings>
    <binding protocol="ftp" bindingInformation="*:21:" />
  </bindings>
  <ftpServer>
    <security>
      <ssl controlChannelPolicy="SslAllow" dataChannelPolicy="SslAllow" />
      <authentication>
        <basicAuthentication enabled="true" />
      </authentication>
    </security>
    <userIsolation mode="None">
      <activeDirectory />
    </userIsolation>
    <directoryBrowse showFlags="" />
    <messages suppressDefaultBanner="true" />
    <fileHandling allowReadUploadsInProgress="true" />
  </ftpServer>
</site>

Is there any other setting that we've missed or any known problems with this setting? UnfortunatlyallowReadUploadsInProgress doesn't seem to have any effect at all on our server.

Best regards, Jonas Mixter

Creating smooth streaming packages with ismt captions

$

Hello! I'm trying to make smooth streaming packages that are a bit unusual. I have several pro tools at my disposal, including Carbon Coder, Mac Captions, Digital Rapids, ffmpeg etc. I need to make several multi layer encodes with captions sourced from an scc file. I can convert this scc file to dfxp, srt, whatever - using Mac Caption, but the final smooth streaming packages must contain ismt captions. This is doable with 30p content using Carbon. However, I need to mix Baseline profile with main profile in a single manifest, and Carbon doesn't support this. So, I need to come up with a workflow to encode 25p using a mixture of baseline and main profile layers, with captions. I've got the video and audio down, ffmpeg is fine. I can transform mp4 to ismv / ISMA using IIS transform manager, but I don't see a way to handle the captioning!! I'll buy whatever. Maybe Expression Pro? I'm looking at evaluating unified-streaming as their mp4 fragmenter appears to convert dfxp to ismt. Any other suggestions?? Help! Thanks :)

Content length mismatch

Serving a website behind ARR and URL Rewrite with SSL offloading in place.

Using the Microsoft ReportViewer control for SSRS.

In IE only, content is truncated when the ReportViewer returns content; using Fiddler I get the following message about a protocol violation:

"Content-Length mismatch: Response Header claimed 1767884 bytes, but server sent 1772317 bytes."

Removing ARR, URL Writing and SSL ofloading from the picture, the content is returned in full, as expected, no errors in IE.

Gallery Server Pro installs but 'login' and 'search' buttons do nothing

I've installed Gallery Server Pro on my local Windows 8 system and I can view the sample image. BUT, the 'login' button is dead (does nothing) and the 'search' magnifying glass button is also dead (does nothing.)

I examined the devault page using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate and I see a 'form1' runat=server. But I can't find form1 anywhere in the source, so I have nothing more to look at for debugging.

Visual Studio 2012 Publish Web Site (Web Deploy Package) with site creation

I have a web project in Visual Studio 2012 and I am able to create a web deployment package. However I am having difficulties using msdeploy with this package to create a new web site on my server.

My server looks like this:

  • dev-srv01
    • Application Pools
      • Default Web Site
    • Sites
      • Default Web Site
        • iisstart.htm

I would like to create a deployment package that would create a site on the server like this:

  • dev-srv01
    • Application Pools
      • Default Web Site
      • My New Web Site
    • Sites
      • Default Web Site
        • iisstart.htm
      • My New Web Site
        • default.htm

I have read that I could possible use msdeploy with the types appHostConfig and iisApp but I have been unable to piece all this together and create a successfully working script. Is what I am attempting to do even possible?

IIS cannot access DFS after reboot.

I have an issue where one of my IIS servers cannot access DFS until a user logs into the server. No action is required by the user other than logging into the server using RDC.

Until a user logs into the server the site returns a 500 error code. Other sites hosted on the same server which do not use DFS run normally.

Although Failed Request Tracing is turned on nothing gets logged while the site is down. Once IIS can access DFS Failed Request Tracing works normally. IIS logs just show 500.19 errors with sc-win32-status of 4350.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hugh

Data Channel Port Range Grayed Out?

$

I just installed the new 7.g ftp services and I have been struggling with firewall rules, as I need to configure an external firewall to allow the data ports, however, the Data Channel Port Range box is grayed out, so I cannot configure what ports is should use, and I have no idea what ports may be configured by default.

I have tried setting the external IP, but that did not help in either passive or active mode.
There is a warning message in the upper left of the IIS Manager that says: “To accept passive connections when you are using FTP over SSL (FTPS) or when your firewall does not filter packets, configure the external IPv4 address of your firewall.” , which I think is suggesting that I add firewall allow rules for the Data Channel Port Range of [0-0]…?

Also, when I add an external IP address of the firewall, I get a dialogue saying “Please configure your firewall to allow FTP access for both the control channel and data channel port range”. Which I would just love to do, but I cannot find a place that says what the control channel is, and the interface will not allow me to change the Data Channel Port Range from 0.

Anyway, this is a Windows 2008 x64 machine sitting behind a pix firewall. The local Windows 2008 firewall is currently off, as I did not want it in my problem space.

Anyway, I am definitely confused?.

Wildcard mapped ISAPI extension and custom error URL

$

Hi,

I have a wildcard mapped ISAPI extension, and when I tell IIS that I do *not* want to handle the request, I use HSE_REQ_EXEC_URL with a setting of HSE_EXEC_URL_IGNORE_CURRENT_INTERCEPTOR, which works fine. This flag, however, prevents my extension from being called again when my extension "declines" a request that ultimately results in an HTTP error code (e.g. 404) mapped to a custom error URL.

If I do *not* specify HSE_EXEC_URL_IGNORE_CURRENT_INTERCEPTOR, my extension is called again with the custom error URL, which is exactly what I want, and the first tests show that my extension is never called more than twice, first for the original URL, then for the custom error URL.

My question: is it possible that my extension is called more than twice, possibly infinitely many times, and is there a way to detect it?

Thanks, Dominique

IIS7 Directory Browsing won't work at all

I am trying to setup directory browsing and having no luck at all. I get a 500 error.

Through the UI for the site I have enabled Directory Browsing and deleted the default.asp which was in the directory because I no longer need it. The web.config file has the following line:

<directoryBrowse enabled="true" showFlags="Time, Size, Extension" />

"Network Service" and IUSR have read/execute permissions on the folder and I disabled the "Default Document" feature. The folder is located on a USB drive. If I put in a reference to a direct file, it's not even working now  and the content view isn't even updating properly! It's still showing files I deleted! Extremely frustrating, I miss IIS6...

Task Scheduler and Windows Server 2008

$

Hello

I'm trying to manage some tasks in the task scheduler via a web application running in IIS.

In a task you have always to specify which user account will be used to run the task, the default IIS user (IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool) can't be used to run a task, so when you manage tasks from IIS you have always to specify another user to run the task, like the Local Service. Another solution would be to change the identity of the application pool in IIS and instead of using the ApplicationPoolIdentity switch it to Local Service, in this case when you manage tasks from IIS you don't have to specify another account because it is already the Local Service.

Now this is working correctly in windows 7 but not in windows server 2008. In windows 2008 if I set the identity of the application pool to Local Service I can manage the tasks in the task scheduler, but if I use the default identity (ApplicationPoolIdentity) and I try to manage the tasks setting as running user the Local Service I get an access denied:

Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

I though that the users and user groups were configurated in the same way on windows 7 and windows 2008 but it seems not, somehow the ApplicationPoolIdentity on windows 2008 has less permissions than on windows 7. I didn't find anything to configure the ApplicationPoolIdentity permissions the only thing that you can do is set the read/write permissions to the filesystem, so I tried to give read/write permissions to the C:\windows\system32\tasks folder but it didn't work.

So I'm out of ideas, I suppose that the ApplicationPoolIdentity can't access some folder on the filesystem to read/write something but the exception doesn't help because it doesn't say which folder, on the other side there isn't an entry in the windows event to find it out.

How can I solve this problem? How can I find out which permission is missing to the ApplicationPoolIdentity to access the task scheduler?

Thanks
